“I’m sick of just liking people. I wish to God I could meet somebody I could respect.” —Franny and Zooey, J.D. Salinger (via fuckyeahliteraryquotes)

“I own stripping as a feminist option because I believe that feminism is anything that empowers a female. You want to be a housewife because it empowers you? DO IT. You want to be in the army? DO IT. You want to be a doctor? An astronaut? A painter? A bartender? …A stripper? DO IT if it makes you happy, just do it. The essence here is the phrase, empowering to a female. I do not claim that stripping is empowering for everyone. I will not stand here and tout it as the be-all. Some girls come to it out of a rock and a hard place, and that, my friends, is not feminism. If there’s no choice in it, if it is not empowering, it is not feminism. But I do refuse to be shamed into being told that stripping is inherently degrading. I refuse to be told that I have no self-respect; I’ve got it in spades. I refuse to, like any good feminist, allow you to use your narrow-minded perspective and words against me. To let you create my spaces for me. All empowered women should be allowed to roar. And any who haven’t found that voice should be supported to find their empowerment, where ever it may lie.” —Ava Adore (via brooklynsimone)

the worlds within

Why is it that we get attached even when we know we shouldn’t? And why do we care when someone we weren’t even that into says that they aren’t into to us?

I honestly thought I could be casual. Just have fun. No strings attached. Be that girl, and be completely ok with it. It was supposed to be simple, he was leaving in two weeks and I was probably never going to see him again. It was a fling. Nothing more than a distraction. And then he decides to end it. I mean how do you even end something that hasn’t even really started?

Clearly I’m not that girl. I hate that. I hate that I can’t be detached and not give a flying fuck.

Well, I might not be that girl. But I sure as hell act like I am. At least no one else has to know.

“The human race is an unfair and stupid competition. A lot of the runners don’t even get decent sneakers or clean water. Some people are born with a massive head start, every possible help along the way and still the referees seem to be on their side. It’s not surprising some people have given up competing altogether and gone to sit in the grandstand, eat junk food and shout abuse. What we need is a lot more streakers.” —Banksy (via badparts)

Falling Florence + The Machine

Because falling’s not the problem
When I’m falling I’m in peace
It’s only when I hit the ground
It causes all the grief

So I just watched He's just not that into you

That movie is so wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to start, or even if I should start… It’s geared to making women feel like their whole life should be about getting married and finding The One, as if no one could be happy or whole without a significant (hopefully heterosexual) other.

But thats not even the worst part, the worst part is that someone like me can still sit there and watch it and go on the emotional roller-coaster that the creators intended. I honestly caught myself starting to almost believe it at one point. ME. If someone like me could be swayed in that way, I can only imagine what the average teenager goes through when watching that BS.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I am the most learned person in the world, I still have a very long way to go in terms of intelectual development in every sense. But I, at least, am aware of how ridiculous social “norms” on romantic relationships are, and I also understand how harmful they can be. I have had the good fortune to have reference points, to have been (and continue to be) exposed to literature and research about how close-minded and biased “western” society can be.

I can’t even begin to think how this kind of entertainment could impact the lives of people who don’t see it as merely that, but instead feel like it’s a guide to love and life in general.

Maybe I’m being way too holier-than-thou with this whole thing… I just wished that mainstream media could be less biased and give more people a chance to formulate their own opinions, based on a variety of viewpoints, instead of spoon feeding them what they should feel and how they should act.
